Mythweaving: Story and the Self

  • Henbant Permaculture Farm Caernarfon, Wales, LL54 5DF United Kingdom (map)

What to expect

Join us for an immersive day retreat that invites you to step into the living world of myth, fairytale and story. Set on a beautiful permaculture farm in Eyri (Snowdonia), you will be held, encouraged and inspired as you journey inward through creative and therapeutic practices rooted in the ancient wisdom of story. Guided by experienced tutors, we hope you will find fresh ways to understand your own experiences, connect with some of the many parts of yourself, and perhaps even reveal some of the resonance that reverberates in the subterranean space beneath the surface of everyday life.

This is a day to slow down, breathe deeply, and feel connected to yourself, to others, to nature and to our ancestral wisdom. Through storytelling, writing, poetry, meditation, discussion and guided reflection, we hope you will leave with some new tools to help you connect with story in your own unique, personal way. We are not here to tell you what a story means, but to help you to build your own singular, beautiful and complex relationship with the stories we share. You will enjoy nourishing vegetarian food, home-baked cakes, and warming tea and coffee, and rest in the knowledge that you are held in a safe, supportive community of fellow seekers. Absolutely no experience needed, this is a well held and facilitated experiential day retreat.

About the facilitators

Silvia Rose is a published writer, tutor and workshop facilitator. Working across fiction, nonfiction and poetry, her work is largely inspired by her Welsh and Serbian roots, place, and the symbolic language of myth and fairytales. In 2021 she published her debut poetry collection Spell into Being. In 2023 she was selected as an Emerging Writer by Literature Wales, shortlisted for the Rhys Davies Short Story Award, and has since had work published in anthologies by Parthian Books and Honno, as well as a range of online platforms. She was recently awarded a place on the Representing Wales development programme and is currently one of Hay Festival’s Writers at Work. Over the last decade she has worked as a tutor, mentor and facilitator helping people develop their writing skills. She is passionate about inspiring creativity in others and using it as a tool for connection and self expression.

Jack Cunliffe is a psychotherapist whose primary focus is trauma. Jack’s approach is curious, radically self-accepting, compassionate and playful. Jack has a primary training in psychodynamic, humanistic and cognitive therapy. He has now chosen to specialise in trauma work, and he does this through a combination of different approaches that are then integrated into his core training, including meditation, somatic awareness, breathwork and internal parts work. Jack is also on a storytelling journey, and is in the process of weaving together his therapy work and his storytelling work, both in performance and in the therapy room. Jack is particularly drawn to the stories that contain deep inner wisdom, validation of the human experience and that encourage resonance and connection. Stories are not fixed things, and are not top down wisdom - they are alive, and interact with the reader or listener and their own experiences, and in so doing can reveal new ideas about the person and the story.
